Reunion 2013 was awesome! the old baltic gang back together again parting from dusk til dawn :)
Staying true to statistics of the last 5 years, another 6 months has past and its time to move again :P hopefully this place will stick for a while :)
I was living in a tiny basement in frederiksberg since sept… since finding nice accommodation in copenhagen on short notice is pretty much impossible. When the winter came however, the situation with mold and humidity got out of hand so i started looking for a new place… and what a place did i find! i guess i was pretty lucky again… got a sweet 25sqm room in a 170sqm apartment shared between 3 people… so the place is huge… and its only 2km from my work and ~3km from the center… couldnt be more happy :) so heres a few photos…
Had a nice christmas vacation… Latvia->estonia->finland. Since i’m home like once per year, i figured that i should take some photos so i wont forget how it looks like :D
Unfortunately i had my camera in the repairs so i had to use my ancient nikon D40 that i had left for my parents when i upgraded a few years ago… so i didnt really bother doing it that properly… so some images are a bit funky ;)
So last saturday we took a little trip to malmö… first time in sweden for me despite the fact that its only 30km away and the train costs like dkk70!
It was a great idea! Debaser is an awesome venue, i would love to find one like it in copenhagen! and as expected, the band was great, at least the best estonian performance i have ever seen…
well well, seems like the summer has come and gone… morning bikerides have become rather freezing… especially now when living in frederikserg (missing my last place lot but what can you do…) anyways, not much has been going on, still work, meeting lots of fun people, hell, even saw a ballet (totally shattered my stereotypes :) and heres some random shots from the last weeks…
The past 3 months in cph have been magical… so many things ive done nd seen, met loads of people from all over the world and in general, it has been an awesome summer… of course life is like a rollercoaster so there are ups and downs… last weekend after hell of a party i woke up just to find my “rel” landlord behind the door telling me that the place has to be empty today… apparently the guy i was subletting from, sublet it from him with without telling him about me and many others who had been through there…. at some point he said we might need to move on 1th of october since the sublet contract would expire but he’ll see if it can be extended, and due to some reasons, he failed to keep in touch with us after that (still not 100% sure why until i get back the deposit) but long story short, i was all of a sudden packing my things… luckily i found a place next day after an hour of search… in frederiksberg… a km from the old place in (apparently finding a place in cph is hard as hell but ive been kinda lucky so far). so the old and awesome party apartment is gone :( will miss that place… made some good memories in that place… and among other things renars moved to arhus to study so its a bit more quiet in here now… so ups and downs… but looking forward to seeing what the next few months will bring… til then, heres another dump of photos fom the past few weeks (and some much older stuff)
So during a late night in a tiny bar in norrebro, my lovely new friend from brazil came up with an idea to go and see hamlet’s castle about 50km out from cph… so next morning we took a car and hit the road with sam, vita and zoe
went to a Coldplay concert in parken last month. Absolutely stunning show and performance… they sure had put a lot of oney and effort into it…
- Great stage design with stage reaching all the way to the centre of the stadium and the sides,
- Fireworks!
- Everyone got bracelets that blinked in the rhythm of the music (only for mylo xyloto songs… most of the show was still the old stuff)
- cannons shooting mylo xyloto paper characters/logo in the air (the whole stadium was full of it)
- lasers, lights, air pumped and blinking cloth sculptures, huge beach balls in the crowd, etc.
- band full of energy, just jumping, running and sweating like hell
So 2 weeks ago found this really good friend… zoe from Brazil (completely Finnish in my mind though :P)
And together we’ve been conquering Copenhagen one day at the time… in the end of it, it was 14 nights out on town in a row… including 5 days of beach during my vacation and 5 days where i slept max of 5h due to going to work the next morning… but it has been a blast! Met so many cool people, made many friends, discovered the city and in general, it has been most fun ive had since hojskole ^^.
Had a little grill at my place the other day… turned out to be a veery long and fun evening with many good friends.
So in the end of july i helped my friend Vita to transport some stuff for a theatre show at a festival in sonderborg…
750km @ 90km/h … graazy… but at least we got to restock om cheap booze and candy in Germany ^^
So after 4 years of living in denmark, i finally had a chance to go to roskilde… all of a sudden a week before the festival, out company decided to go and have our own display there.. so 6 days of party and a few shifts of work in between… and when theres party in roskilde then its rather serious, hardcore party… i really cant understand how all these danes survive 8 days of it without much of an effort :D
overall, very dirty, messy, drunk event that smells a lot like pee… but if ou go with good friends (or find some good friends there ) then it is pretty damn excellent… despite the lousy line-up they had this year :D
So the beginning of the year has been really chaotic… in march my old employer went bankrupt so i was basically sitting home alone in my tiny 24sqm room for 2 months… remaking my website, sending out 100 apps, keeping my mind busy and cooking some rice balls :D… in the end i got 2 interviews so i gave renars a visit in copenhagen, had the first grill of the summer and 2 intervies that went pretty well… i ended up being offered positions in both of the companies… both for front-end developer positions… one was a solid long-term position, the other a fixed 6 month deal… i went with the 6 month thing since its a job in the gaming industry in a square enix owned studio… something ive always wanted but did not see happening in the foreseeable future… so of course i went for it.
So i packed my bags, cleared and cleaned my old apartment in filskov (still ended up paying dkk7000 for cleaning and painting) and drove off to the other end of denmark… with no place to stay… so hostel for a few nights and then i managed to find a room in a shared flat though couch surfing forum just 3km from the centre in norrebro… so basicaly, i got the offer, i moved to cph, stated work and found an apartment all within 1 week or so... graaazy pace after having sat home for 2months. I have now been here for almost 2 months and enjoying every minute of it. Cph is a fun and beautiful place to live in, the work is great and rewarding, the apartment is neat, cheap and well located and overall im pretty happy :)
So In the end of the last month, I had a bit of a surprise when my employer announced that he had gone bankrupt…
well, it was fun while it lasted. Now I’m on the hunt again. First few weeks i was busy remaking my portfolio site to actually reflect my current abilities (since the old one was about 5 years old i think)and now im busy sending out applications… first priority is Denmark but i am really am considering england (or other english speaking countries) as a backup in case denmark does not work out this time.
So basically, check out my new site at koivistik.com
Or if you have any leads for jobs then let me know ;)
So it has been almost 6 months already since i finally got a permanent job.
As some might know, i’m working as a multimedia designer in a small architecture firm – so im in charge of any design related work my employer is in need of.
So far, it has been mostly 3D visualization for our building projects (i get the blueprints, model the building, come up with an interior design if needed (often in cooperation with our architect Atis) and finished up with slooow rendering… imac running on windows aint the fastest for 3D) then quite a bit of Webdesign and maintenance. Ive also designed some logos and im putting together lots of powerpoints and doing a bit of smaller task like visit cards, stickers, etc. when ever needed. So ive posted some images of the better stuff ive done so far (improving with every project so some older stuff aint worth showing and some is still in progress)
So this is how i ended up spending my christmas vacation :/
I had bought my car when i was pretty low on cash so it ended up being fairly rusty… so i took a drive home to Estonia for christmas to fix it up… never thought it would take as much time as it did :/
